Spring Rain

We had a classic Texas spring thunderstorm this afternoon- thunder, lightning, hail and a downpour for 15 minutes, followed immediately by sunny skies. This is my absolute favorite kind of weather- the drama of a thunderstorm, and the reward of crisp, cool, sunny afternoon afterward! I celebrated by making these fresh olive oil soaps:

Tinted with bright and shiny micas, these cuties are scented a fresh coconut lime verbena. Yay spring!

One More Reason We Love to Live in Texas!

Bean Street Market is located deep in the Heart of Texas, and here's one more reason why we love it here:

Texas, for the fourth consecutive year, has been identified as the best state in which to do business by chief executive officers in a Chief Executive magazine survey.
Results of the magazine’s fifth annual “Best & Worst States” survey were released earlier this month. The next four best states behind Texas were North Carolina, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee. The survey of 543 CEOs asked them to evaluate regulatory issues, tax policies, education, quality of living and other factors. The survey ranked California as the worst state for business, preceded by New York, Michigan and New Jersey. -

So we make our little soaps, sing our little song, and appreciate how lucky we are to live in the Lone Star State!

This is one of our shea butter soaps in ginger peach and almond biscotti. *Almost* good enough to eat!

So Why Bean?

Where did the name Bean Street come from? Well, soy(bean) wax candles were our first product here at the Market, so our name is kind of an homage to our roots. We also like to use soy wax in our bath and body products too, when we can. Why soy? There are many benefits to using soy wax over traditional paraffin wax. Soy wax is made from hydrogenated soybean oil, a renewable resource (paraffin wax is a petroleum product). Soy candles burn cleaner, so no sooty mess on your walls or furniture. Soy wax has a lower melting point than paraffin, which allows us to make wonderful products like our romantic massage candle! Soy candles also "throw" scent very well, resulting in a stronger fragrance when you burn your candle. And finally, when we use and you buy soybean products instead of paraffin, we are all supporting American farmers who produce soybeans, and American jobs!

So that's the story of the Bean Street name, and we're sticking to it! :) Thanks for stopping by!
